JUNIOR BASKETBALL STATE SQUADS NAMED
Mount Gambier’s elite Under 18 basketballers featured strongly in the SA Country 2013 State squads named by State Head Coaches Paul Salter and Malcolm Penno over the weekend.
Six Junior Lakers, three boys and three girls, were listed. They are Georgia Green, Malinda Markiewicz and Brianna Walters in the sixteen player Girls squad while Kane deWit, Stephen Sochacki and Sam Stafford are in the fourteen player Boys squad.
Trainings will be held through February and March in preparation for the national championships in Brisbane from April 20th to 27th.
Sam Stafford has just completed a demanding Australian Junior Training Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra at which he improved his numbers in all the physical tests and finished fourth. He complemented these impressive results with consistently high shooting percentages and determined efforts in the scrimmages.
The other five have just returned from the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in Albury where they all played key roles as leaders in their respective teams.
