The new year is a time when meany people stop to reflect on the past year, as well as looking ahead and thinking about what the year ahead may hold.
In 2012, AFL in the Darling Downs had a number of milestone acheivements.
- Highest ever junior participation in AFLDDJ matches
- Highest ever number of Auskick pariticipants and the first time cracking the 2000 barrier
- Return of the Adrian Jericho Reserves competition with nearly 150 players strapping on the boots
- Michael O'Donoghue wins the prestigious AFL Merit Award
- AFL 9s launched in Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley, Chinchilla & Kingaroy
- U18 Darling Downs Crows win the premiership undefeated
- U14 Darling Downs Crows formed, playing in the AFLBJ Division 1 competition and making it to the finals in their first season
- Jeremy Sheldrick wins the State Junior Coach of the Year Award
- A brand new joint league strategic plan for 2012 - 2016
2013 is set to be even bigger and even better with new clubs, new competitions and the Brisbane Lions visiting the region. Just some of the key events already planned to be rolled out include:
- BRISBANE LIONS Community Camp on February 15 & 16 with numerous events planned to send them right across the region
- 2 BRAND NEW clubs, the Chinchilla SUNS & South Burnett Saints
- BRAND NEW senior women's competition
- NEW MAJOR SPONSOR for the AFLDDJ; McDonalds Toowoomba Region Restaraunts
- BRAND NEW Toowoomba Under 6s competition
- EXPANSION of the Reserves competition
- INTRODUCTION of the Satellite Schools Program
- BRAND NEW home ground for the Lockyer Valley Demons
- MARQUEE games at Heritage Oval for the South Toowoomba Bombers
- LAUNCH of the AFLDD Clubs Alive Program
- CROWS program to expand to include U16s
- plus many ideas which have not even been considered yet!
