The Fijian men’s team had just pulled off a convincing 12-0 victory over Papua New Guinea in the gold medal playoff for the FIH World Series Round One.
The women’s team has also qualified for the second round of the world league but Fiji women’s coach Shaun Corrie is holding of all celebrations till after their final against the Aussies in the OPC.
“One down, one to go. It depends on the girls, if they have it in their heart, they can take it.
“We haven’t beaten Australia in a final,” said Corrie.
The Australia Country teams come in fresh after a rest day whereas for the Fijian women, it’ll be their 7th straight match.
Injured Fijian men’s captain Hector Smith Junior who missed the clash against Papua New Guinea is determined to take the field against Australia although dad and coach Hector Senior wants him rested for the India trip.
“I really want to be with them,” said the younger Smith.
The Oceania Pacific Cup finals begin at 9am with the playoff for third and fourth in the women’s between New Zealand Maori and PNG and the same two countries face off for the same placing in the men’s category at 11am.
The final for the women- Fiji and Australia Country starts at 1pm and the men’s final at 3pm.
