New Zealand Maori showed why they were the favourites heading into the match, as they were able to obtain a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes both goals scored by Sioux Morgan.
New Zealand was awarded many penalty corners but thanks to some brilliant saves by the PNG goal keeper Rachel Rabbie, and it wasn’t till the 25th minute that the PNG defence buckled and New Zealand were able to score a 3rd goal, by Penny Stark. PNG was able to keep a respectable score-line 4-0 at half time.
But at the beginning of second half an own goal by PNG spelled the end for any chances of a comeback. The second stanza saw much of the same action of first half with New Zealand Maori running away with the victory with goals to Claudia Hanham, Victoria Anderson, another to Stark and another 2 goals by Morgan.
