St George AFC held their Annual presentation Dinner at St George Masos who are one of the clubs major sponsors. This was the culmination of a very successful season for the Dragons with all sides making a Finals appearance, the Ressies winning the Division Two Premiership, the ground at Olds Park having a makeover with drainage installed and the clubhouse refurbishment well and truly underway.
The excitement was palpable with the largest turnout in many years ready to celebrate with Coach Gavin “Gadget” Raper and Captain Rick Talbot as they received the Premiership flag and were presented with their medals and embroided jumper. In addition, all in attendance wondered if unsung hero, Steven Wilsen could take out his 3rd consecutive Dwyer Medal (and his fourth since 2006).
The club was honoured that David Felstead could attend to present the Felstead Medal for the Best & Fairest in the Under 18’s named in honour of his father. This went to Matt Jones who played a number of senior matches. The Reserves Best & Fairest was awarded to Harry Brooks.
In the Danny Dwyer Medal, with one round remaining Wilsen (pictured middle-right) held a four vote lead. He got two votes in the last match but young tyro and club leading goalkicker, Nick Ryan (pictured middle-left) took six votes to join him as joint winners of the Best & Fairest.
Other awards went to Kevin Wilsen as the Best Clubman and Shane Demir, Rick Talbot, Scooter Richmond and Jon Shineberg received Life Membership for ten seasons of football service to the club.
