Davis flies high for Bats

The UTS Bats celebrated season 2012 at the UTS Aerial Function Centre on Friday the 9^th November with over 130 guests attending.

A culmination of a successful year both on and off the park for the Bats, it was a night of green and black co hosted by Fox Sports News Presenter Tom Chadwick and Jot Lynas.

President, Scott Baker was delighted with the clubs performance in its first year with 5 teams in the Sydney AFL. He congratulated the support from both committee and leadership group, positive the club can improve again in 2013.

George Harder & Simon Duguid were recognised deservedly with Life Membership after 10 years service.

Top honours went to first year Victorian recruit, Mike Davis taking out the Premier Division Best & Fairest, in a year seeing the Bats narrowly miss finals, after a huge improvement on season 2011. Tom O’Dywer lead Davis by 18 votes after Round 5 but didn't poll again seeing Davis take out the award ahead of Scott Tregoning, and Daniel McFarlane.

Division One saw Irish speedster Sean McGuiness rewarded after a consistent year on the park. McGuiness took the award, one vote ahead of Greg Smith, with another Irish teammate, Barry Holland finishing third. Coach Andrew Christie, made claim for a hard fought year in a competitive competition, after losing their Preliminary Final to Southern Power. 　

With a new coach, in Justin Kurenda, the Division Three side finished minor premiers, and went on to defeat Blacktown in the Grand Final after a rivalry that will no doubt continue in season 2013. Wes Woodman was named Best & Fairest with ruckman Mick Izhik finishing runner up after moving east from Maroubra last year.

Division Four honours went to another Irishman, in Dermott Lowry, whilst Daniel Cutlack was named Division Five Best & Fairest.

The club also recognised milestones of John Colbert (200 games), George Capozzi (100 games) and Nick Allardice (100 games) for their achievements in 2012.

Club secretary, Nino Williamson was awarded Clubman of the Year for his efforts away from the field.
