The Year That Was- North Shore Bombers
2012: Eliminated in Semi Final after finishingSecond- 15 wins, 3 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: Ron Wason & Sam Carruthers (Equal 6th – 12 votes)
Positives: Many weren’t sure how the Bombers would fare this year but the critics were quickly put in their box with the Bombers nearly securing the minor premiership. Ron Wason (captain) and Jon Hayres (coach) headed a strong leadership group with both being recognised in the naming of the AFL Sydney Team of the Year. Sam Naismith was among the best recruits of the year in the ruck. The Bombers continued to bring on talented young players and had a good spread of goalkickers.
Negatives: Losing three straight games to end the season was not what the Bombers envisaged going into the final round. They should have finished minor premiers but lost their confidence against bogey side, Pennant Hills. Their one-point loss to UTS in the back-end of the season was also unexpected.
Areas for improvement: Their list is good with plenty of upside. What they maybe miss is a genuine ball-magnet who can win the game off their own bat. If the likes of Naismith and Pat Brackin stick around and continue to develop, they will contend for the premiership again next season.
