The Year That Was- Pennant Hills Demons
2012: Eliminated in Preliminary Final after finishingThird- 15 wins, 3 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: Kieran Wright (2nd– 20 votes)
Positives: The Demons looked a refreshed outfit with Chris Yard in charge this year. Alex Goodall, Matthew Carey and Kieran Wright were clearly their best players, while Luke Bilbe got better as the year went on. They finished two spots higher than last year, with their final round and Qualifying Final wins over North Shore arguably being the highlights of their season.
Negatives: After being on a roll with these wins against North Shore, the narrow losses to UNSW/ES and Balmain in the following weeks made it a sad way to end the season. They lacked firepower up forward with the loss of Ranga Ediriwickrama from mid-season onward. Injuries played their part with a number of players missing at various stages. Ultimately, they could not take that next step despite many fancying them for the premiership.
Areas for improvement: The Demons have a steady midfield and wily defence but need goal kickers. They had the fifth best attacking record in the league. Some more youth from their Under 18 program could help with a more attacking mindset.
Overall Grade: B
