The Year That Was- UTS Bats
2012: Sixth- 11 wins, 7 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: Joel Minichiello (Equal 16th- 8 votes)
Positives: UTS made some significant steps this year, winning eight more games. Kudos goes to their off-field team that were heavy players in the recruitment market. The Bats were in a good position to make the finals playing a strong, contested brand of football. David Lavender was strong up forward, and their defence was resolute on most occasions with Sam Way a good addition.
Negatives: Just lacked the killer instinct to take them to the next level. Their big loss to St George late in the season derailed their finals hopes. They lacked a genuine back-up for Lavender up forward.
Areas for improvement: Like some sides, they will be better for the run and with less injuries and absences next year, they should make finals. They are physically a well-developed unit, so their recruitment efforts should be around finding another key forward.
Overall Grade: B
