The Year That Was- Western Suburbs Magpies
2012: Ninth- 4 wins, 14 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: Stephen Hudson (Equal 9th- 10 votes)
Positives: They fought back well after a poor start to the season with some good wins in the back-end of the season where other non-finals teams were not so competitive. Stephen Hudson had another super season and is a lion-hearted skipper. Jack Codd-Miller and Jarryd Polley are the future of the club.
Negatives: They struggled to fire a shot in the first part of the season. The fact is they are eight wins off St George who were the last side to make the finals, so a drastic improvement is needed. They can be easily exposed if the likes of Hudson and Rory Miller can be kept quiet.
Areas for improvement: The early word is the Magpies will be more competitive next season so watch this space. They have some ageing bodies so like Balmain revitalising their list with mid-20 aged players with experience in higher leagues will see them go up the ladder.
Overall Grade: C-
