The Year That Was- Campbelltown Blues
2012: Tenth- 4 wins, 14 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: Paul Green (Equal 16th- 8 votes)
Positives: They broke a long-standing drought on a very wet June long weekend encounter against Sydney Hills Eagles. This gave them the impetus to win another three games for the season. Coach Craig McGough went with a youth policy which should pay dividends moving forward. If they stick around, Paul Green and Ben Wharton are among youngsters who are the future of the club.
Negatives: They still struggle to win games off their own boot and boasted the worst defensive record of any side in the league. When they got beaten, they got beaten by a fair margin. There is still a big gap to bridge if they are to make finals in the near future.
Areas for improvement: An encouraging year for the Blues’ faithful. They have already appointed an Under 18 coach in a grade where they pulled out of the competition during the season. Youth is the future and they need to continue to rebuild. Like a lot of bottom clubs, a key forward, defender and genuine ball magnet would not go astray.
Overall Grade: C-
