The Year That Was- Sydney University
2012: Last- 1 win, 17 losses
Highest Polling Player at Phelan Medal: MJ Figg & Samuel Orton (Equal 62nd- 3 votes)
Positives: Hard to find many as the club struggled with the transition to the NEAFL competition, floundering at the bottom of both that competition and in Premier Division. This did give them an opportunity to blood some young players with Dane Roberton and Alex Hawtin both earning Rising Star nominations. They were able to challenge Balmain at home and could have won that match if they had a killer instinct.
Negatives: Injuries and constant movement of players tested an already fragile list. They lacked key position players and leaders able to win the ball and take the rest of the side with them.
Areas for improvement: This exercise has already begun with a review currently in place and there will be some tough calls made across the board. It was a learning year but depth is a big issue. They need marquee players at the top end and an active recruitment strategy to give the squad more of a winning chance in 2013.
Overall Grade: E
