It will be a youthful Manly-Warringah Wolves squad that will go out in search of an Under 18 Division Two premiership against minor premiers, Southern Power on Saturday.
With the majority of the squad fresh out of the junior system, coach Kevin Morgan believes the group is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to perform on the big stage.
“They are a close group who are looking forward to the experience more than anything else,” he said.
“There is a quiet confidence and a sense of anticipation and excitement amongst the players.”
The confidence comes from defeating Southern Power a fortnight ago to book an armchair ride into this weekend’s decider.
Morgan is looking to a similar formula this weekend.
“It will come down to hard work and the players executing our game plan and making good decisions,” Morgan said.
“They will be ready for us; we probably took them by surprise last time so it’s not going to be easy.”
The Whiteboard- with Kevin Morgan
Key players for the Wolves- Callum Johnston out of the middle is the competition Best & Fairest. He is just a real clever footballer who works really hard, he gets the ball and makes really good decisions. He is a big part of that structure. Jimmy Behagg at centre half-back is our general who destroys the ball from behind and sets up the players down the ground. Also some of our small midfielders and half-forwards, guys like Jack Parker and Tom McCaffrey who give us heaps of drive and gets in and under and can spread well when we win possession.
The threat that the Power pose- I think they have a strong forward structure- they use their full-forward well who leads strongly and they know where to kick to him. They’ve got some good run off the wings, so we need to get our structures right at stoppages so they don’t drift off out the back and spread.
