Southern Power key defender, Adam Cook is ready for potentially the biggest duel in their Division One Grand Final clash with Manly-Warringah Wolves this weekend.
Cook looks set to line up with Wolves full-forward, David Kovacevic who has set the competition alight by kicking 89 goals in 16 games this year.
Cook is confident he can hold the bulking forward-cum-ruckman.
“I am really excited to go up against him,” Cook said.
“We played together in the Sydney Development squad this year, and in the couple of matches we have played this year I have done pretty well.
“We are two different types of players-, he is a more a body-on contested mark type of player whereas I am a speedy hang-off, spoiling player.
“It should be an interesting battle which could decide how the game goes.”
Cook believes the Power are well-prepared leading into the match despite having not won against the Wolves this year, including their last clash a fortnight ago in the semi-final.
“We have finally got a full strength side going into the game which we have not been able to get for the majority of the season,” he said.
“It is important that we are hard at the ball and provide plenty of run.
“If we stick to our structures, keep going hard at the contest and put our head over the footy; we should get over the top.”
The Whiteboard- with Adam Cook
Key players if Southern Power are to win- “I think Matt Graham is a bit of a barometer as he gives us plenty of drive out of the middle. Matt Young hits the ball hard and when he plays well, I think the whole team gets around him. Alan Fritsch up forward is an X-factor who can kick a bag. It’s only his second game back (from injury) so it should be interesting to see how he goes.
To stop Manly-Warringah- “They are a very well-drilled side with a lot of players who we will have to stop. David Stroud off the backline gives them plenty of run. Then there is Connor Pettersson and Tyrone Armitage, as well as Kovacevic- we have to make sure he doesn’t hit the scoreboard if we are to win it.”
