The SFL will be truly spoilt with a very special guest performing the Australian National Anthem before the Division 1 Senior Grand Final.
Jordie Howell is a classical soprano who works at Vision Australia as a Braille trainer and transcribes music for the vision impaired. Jordie herself is vision impaired and has been gifted with a sensational voice.
Jordie graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from Monash University and has subsequently attained her Licentiate in singing. She held the position of Principal Soprano at St John’s Toorak from 2006 to 2010, is currently an occasional soloist for the Camberwell Christian Science Church in Melbourne and a choral scholar with Christ Church South Yarra. Jordie is the recipient of the 2012 Maroondah Singers Vocal Scholarship.
Participation in Melbourne Eisteddfods has resulted in several high commendations including first place in the Open Age Recital Section at South Street, Ballarat in 2010, winner of the Ringwood Eisteddfod Oratorio section in 2011 and third place in the 2011 Boroondara Eisteddfod Oratorio section. In 2010, Jordie was also a finalist for the Music Society of Victoria's Armstead Singing Award.
Jordie has also given performances with the Monash Concert Band including singing at Jells Park Carols by Candlelight and she continues to perform regularly with the group.
In March last year Jordie travelled to Prague to compete in the Twelfth International Competition for Blind and Partially Sighted Musicians at which she was a finalist. The competition provides a rare opportunity for artists who are blind or vision impaired to demonstrate their artistic ability and meet with other artists who have vision impairment from all over the world.
Jordie has been a member of the Hampton Football Club since 2010 and performed at the graduation ceremony of the club’s Inclusive Leadership Mentoring Program in July this year.
Jordie currently studies with Suzanne Johnston.
Jordie’s performance will no doubt be an uplifting start to the Division 1 Senior Grand Final.
