UNSW/ES Stingrays midfielder, Courtney Gum has been named as the AFL Sydney Womens Best and Fairest player for the second successive year at the Phelan Medal last night.
Twenty year-old Gum solidified her reputation in Women football circles with another strong 2012 season where she played fourteen games and kicked eighteen goals for the Stingrays.
Gum also represented NSW in the AFL NSW/ACT Female Football Series in a losing side against ACT in the three-game series.
Gum polled twenty-eight votes to finish six votes ahead of Western Wolves’ Melissa Freckelton. A further six votes back was a tie for third including fellow Wolves teammate Kate Lawson, Lael Kassem (Auburn) and Kathryn Hull (Southern Power).
