In excess of 520 people attended AFL Sydney's Night of Nights at Doltone House, Pyrmont last night. Hosted by television and radio personality, Hamish McLachlan, the night recognised the achievements of individuals, volunteers and clubs who excelled during the 2012 season.
All past Phelan Medal winners were invited along with Life Members, members of the NSW AFL History Committee, Representatives of GWS Giants and sponsors. Special guests included NSW Minister for Sport- the Hon Graham Annesley, GWS Giants CEO- David Matthews, White Ribbon CEO- Libby Davies and Ambassador and Giants player- Luke Power.
Digital Sports provided the audience with a fantastic presentation which included video and photographic highlights from the 2012 season. A full vote count was conducted for all Premier Division Seniors games. Dane Rampe was named the winner of the 2012 Phelan Medal with 26 votes. In all other divisions, the top twenty vote getters were acknowledged. Darren Carr provided the entertainment on the night.
Three new members were inducted in to the AFL Sydney Hall of Fame at the event. Cliff Matson, Jaret Hogarth and Jason McPherson were in attendance along with family and friends to celebrate their achievements and contribution to AFL in Sydney.
Paul Simonsen from UNSW/ES was presented with the Ken Ferguson Award as AFL Sydney Volunteer of the Year. Macquarie University’s Liz Fassone was named as the AFL Sydney Womens Volunteer of the Year.
Peter Physick’s contribution to AFL Sydney was also acknowledged when he was made a Life Member.
