UNSW/ES Bulldogs young ruckman, Sam Tagliabue has been awarded the 2012 AFL Sydney Rising Star.
Twenty-one year-old Tagliabue has enjoyed a break-out season for the Bulldogs, so far playing fifteen Premier Division games for the Grand Finalists. Tagliabue joined the club from Temora (Farrer FL) in 2011 and played nine games in Division Three that season.
His rise to the top echelon of ruckman has been rapid and was rewarded with a game with the Sydney Swans Reserves side in the NEAFL squad, and was named in the AFL Sydney and AFL NSW/ACT Representative squads.
Tagliabue polled 33 votes, two votes ahead of Pennant Hills midfielder Tim Wales. Fellow ruckman, Sam Naismith from North Shore rounded out the placings, a further six votes behind.
