UNSW/ES Bulldogs star, Dane Rampe was awarded the Phelan Medal last night at a gala ceremony at Doltone House.
The 22-year old Rampe received AFL Sydney’s highest honour after enjoying a strong season in his first season with the Bulldogs after two years with the Williamstown senior VFL side.
Rampe played two years with the Eastern Suburbs side from 2007, and was a prime reason the Bulldogs finished as minor premiers and only on the weekend qualified for the AFL Sydney Premier Division Grand Final after a five-point win over Pennant Hills.
Rampe (26 votes) finished six votes ahead of last year’s Phelan Medalist, Kieran Wright from Pennant Hills. Rampe, despite not polling in the final four rounds featured heavily amongst voting, with six Best on Ground performances in the twenty-week regular season.
The prodigious left-footed midfielder also represented AFL Sydney in the Representative fixture against the Victorian Amateurs and was named as Best Player for AFL NSW/ACT and an All-Australian squad member in the Landmark Australian Country Football Championships.
Wright finished one vote ahead of former WAFL star and now Balmain player-coach, Craig White.
