Winners are grinners and Scott West was smiling when he summed up the 18 point victory over the Casey Scorpions last Sunday “You need to do, what you need to do to win, and that’s what we did” The win puts the Tigers into their second straight VFL Preliminary Final.
The windy conditions meant it was never going to be a pretty game to watch and the low scores are a fair reflection of how hard it was to score for both sides.
“It wasn’t a great game and it was played out on the outer side a fair bit, so it was a scrappy affair, but finals footy is a bit like that”.
Goals were at a premium and Casey scored the first two using the wind to their advantage. The turning point in the game came just before halftime, when Tigers veteran Leigh Harding, an unlikely goal scorer, kicked a miracle goal out of the air. It was a team lifting goal that can make or break a game.
The Tigers came out after half time and took control of the game. “I think the third quarter set it up for us. They only scored one goal and we were in front going into the last quarter with the breeze.”
The Tigers now face either Geelong or Box Hill Hawks in the Preliminary Final next weekend whilst Casey Scorpions need to rebound in a Semi Final match this Saturday against Williamstown.
