Crows Earn Respect but Fall Just Short of Victory
The U14 Toowoomba Crows 2012 season has come to an end after a heart stopping 4 point defeat to powerhouse club Aspley last Sunday. The Crows may have lost the game but they gained a huge amount of respect from the Hornets who earlier in the year thumped the Crows to the tune of 74 points.
After a slow start the young Crows managed to finish the season in 5th position and just missed out on making the Preliminary Final stage of the U14 Div 1 McDonalds Cup in just their first year of competing in this division. Coach Charlie Aston while being bitterly disappointed not to get over the line was extremely proud of his young chargers and the progress they had made throughout the season. “We started the season not knowing if we had made the right call to nominate the team in the Division 1 competition but by the seasons end pushed the top teams all the way” Said Aston. “The improvement in all players has been a pleasure to watch”.
The Crows system will incorporate an U16 team in 2013 meaning that this year’s top age U14’s will have a similar competition to test themselves at next year. So in 2013 look out for U14, U16 and U18 Darling Downs Crows.
The U18 and U14 Crows 2012 season concludes with their presentation evening on Saturday 15th September where the Michael Langfield (U18 Crows) and Michael O’Donoghue (U14) Medallists will be named.
