John "Colby" Colbert will become the first UTS Bats’ player to reach the milestone of playing 200 games for the Club.
Below is a tribute from the club:
"Colby is a champion footballer who epitomises what it takes to be a great Clubman too,” said UTS Bats’ President, Scott Baker.
On the field, Colby has been a true champion of this club and AFL Sydney. He has a compiled an impressive record in any league that is second to none at the Bats. His passion, leadership and dedication will leave a legacy at this club for years to come."
He was the club’s Reserve Grade Captain from 2004-08 and led the club to premierships in this grade for each year of his captaincy, bar 2005.
Statistics alone don't do him justice as his on field commitment is only matched by his work off field. Colby has served on the Bats committee including 2009 and 2010 as President where he led the clubs submission to be elevated to Premier Division, personally oversaw the club gain access to Waverley Oval and has been instrumental in gaining funding for the current Trumper Park upgrade.
He has won numerous club awards including the prestigious Clubman of the Year for service to the Club, Best & Fairest awards and also Life Membership to the Bats in 2010 for 10 years continuous service to the Bats.
John is a passionate promoter and defender of the Bats culture and club values and has been a fantastic leader over many years.
2006 Premiership coach Jeremy Martin said "The one thing that stands out is the competitor in him, he is the fiercest, most determined competitor at the club. He just loves being in the contest and loves the Bats"
He is just as determined and respected on field by team-mates and opposition alike.
The Bats thank Colby for his inspirational leadership and years of dedication to the Bats. From everyone over your 12 years at the Club, congratulations and good luck Saturday.
