The Lockyer Valley’s Matt Struthers has taken out the Senior Club Volunteer of the Year award for 2012, the second straight year a Demon has won the award.
Matt was selected ahead of a list of 19 nominations from across the Downs due to his superb efforts to help grow the game.
In his second year at the club, Matt has stepped up to help in a variety of roles, most notably as the club umpire for up to three junior games on a Saturday. He has also stepped up to field umpire a senior game during the season.
He also goal umpires during senior matches, water runs, assists in the famous Lockyer Valley canteen and helps out at Auskick centres.
Matt has also, despite a couple of setbacks continued to promote the Lockyer Valley AFL 9s program which will no doubt see a massive increase to the Demon’s playing stocks in years to come.
As is the case with most volunteers, Matt was extremely humbled at his award and had no idea he has been nominated, let alone won.
“There are many other people who could have won” said Struthers.
Struthers has also been nominated for the Junior Club Volunteer of the Year & Auskick Volunteer of the Year awards which will be announced at the Junior Presentation Night on September 1st.
Other awards decided at Holman Medal 2012:
Senior Coach of the Year: Nick Barker (Coolaroo)
Senior League Volunteer of the Year: Andrew Smith (Treasurer)
