AFL Queensland paid tribute to program volunteers at the 2012 NAB AFL Auskick Co-ordinator Thank You Function held at The Gabba on Friday night.
Hardworking volunteers from seven regions throughout South East Queensland enjoyed a three course dinner while waiting for the announcement of regional and state ‘NAB AFL Auskick volunteer of the year’ winners.
NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador Shane Crawford was the star attraction of the evening, posing for photos and entertaining the crowd with stories of AFL life and being an Auskick parent.
In speaking at the event, AFLQ Auskick Coordinator Stuart Seager thanked the volunteers and their families for their time and effort.
“There are over 27,000 Auskickers in Queensland, which is a credit to the Regional Development staff and all the volunteers in this room who ensure the program continues to thrive,” Seager said.
Seager also highlighted the NAB’s generous sponsorship of Auskick events including the Mackay Super Clinic and Sunshine Coast NAB AFL Auskick Gala Day.
“Events like this were made possible because of the resources provided by NAB and the support they provide,” he said.
Brennan Lye (Northern Rivers), Toby Wilkinson (Gold Coast), David Doyle (Brisbane South East), Rohan Teasdale (Brisbane West), Les Parfitt (Brisbane North), Kylie McKenzie (Sunshine Coast) and Ross Savill (Darling Downs) received ‘Volunteer of the Year’ awards for their respective regions.
Darling Down’s Ross Savill was named as the Queensland NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer of the Year.
Savill was selected from all thirteen Queensland regions and will join six other state winners from around the country for a 2012 Toyota Grand Final Experience thanks to NAB.
Savill is also in the running for the National NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer of the Year, which will be announced at an AFL Grand Final Day breakfast.
Half-time Little League coordinators from the Gabba and Metricon stadium were also acknowledged for their work throughout the year.
Ross ran both the Rangeville and Darling Heights State School centres in 2012 and this helped him earn the right to be called the 2012 NAB AFL Auskicker Co-ordinator of the year.
