Cyclones Secure Home Quarter Final

The Frenchville Sports Club Rockhampton Cyclones secured a home quarter final with their win over Mackay on Saturday night with a strong 72-59 win.

The Cyclones had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures. Local player Alex Brady had one of her best offensive games of the season with 14 points at 60% shooting.

Imports Shanavia Dowdell (18 points, 12 rebounds), Chandrea Jones (12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals) and Nicole Romeo (15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) continued their impressive season to lead the team to victory.

Coach Heath Millar was happy with the win and the defensive effort from the Cyclones. "I was really happy with our defensive pressure, we forced Mackay to commit 25 turnovers which allowed us to get out and run the floor and create come easy baskets from our defense."

The Cyclones and Mackay Meteors will face off again on Saturday night 25th August in Rockhampton for the right to progress to the championship weekend in Gladstone the following week.

"It will be another great battle this week and a quality basketball game. I hope that the local fans come out and support the girls to help us lift and compete in the finals series the following week." said coach Mllar.
