It will be South Toowoomba and the Highfields Lions playing in the first week of the Under 12 Finals in this year’s Elimination Final.
Highfields were in a similar position last year and would rate their chances of going one better than 2011 but first they must get past the Bombers at Gold Park.
South Toowoomba have been flying low this season and just snuck into this year’s final series due to the table topping University giving Coolaroo a footballing lesson last week. Bombers will need to watch Highfields go to man Lachlan Davies, as Davies seems to have a love affair with the Bombers registering two best on grounds in both the Round 8 and 18 meetings.
Davies ability to push forward and kick goals is also something else the Souths coaching staff will need to harness throughout the clash.
Bombers don’t have many goal-kickers and rely heavily on classy left-footer Tom Reardon who seems to be the fill in man, either playing down back or through the mid-field.
Reardon will need his side-kicks in Debney, Gilmore, Carlsson, Schaumann and Tann to all step up and stop what happened in the Round 18 Clash where the Bombers were unable to register a single goal. The big ground of Gold Park will suit the Bombers run and attack at all cost game style and will need to get on the scoreboard and create “scoreboard” pressure.
Highfields have been erratic in front of goal this season converting at around 50% - they have kicked 146 goals 143 behinds for the home and away season.
A game that can go any way as both sides have recorded a win against each other this season. To pick a winner would be cray cray and all that I can guarantee is that the loser will pack up for season 2012 and celebrate a hootenanny for the year that was.
