AFL Sydney Football Operations Manager, Garry Burkinshaw will stand down from the role at the end of the season, having held the position for the past six seasons.
Burkinshaw joined AFL NSW/ACT in 2007, having been the General Manager of theBlack Diamond AFL for the previous two years.
During his time with AFL NSW/ACT, Garry:
• administered AFL Sydney with excellence.
• was instrumental in the growth of the competition by implementing a divisional format, which has now grown to nine divisions (6 senior men, 2 U18 division and one womens).
• enhanced the pathway of Sydney footballers through the establishment of a Pathway Policy.
• oversaw the integration of the Sydney Womens AFL into AFL Sydney.
• established a strong annual representative program for AFL Sydney.
• acted as delegate to the Australian Country Football Council and was a NSW/ACT team selector and manager for multiple championships.
• played a pivotal role in the football operations activities of Sydney-based NAB Cup and AFL Premiership fixtures.
Burkinshaw is disappointed to be moving on, but believes AFL Sydney is on the right track "It is disappointing to be leaving, however it is time for someone with new ideas to come in and take over" he said
"I have really enjoyed my time and in particular the support and friendship from all the AFL Sydney clubs and associated partners. I believe quite a lot has been achieved over the past six years and with the right support I can only see AFL Sydney continuing to thrive" Burkinshaw added.
Burkinshaw will remain in charge until the completion of the 2012 AFL Sydney Finals series.
