Toowoomba East Stingers have got right behind girls football on the Darling Downs by supporting the Under 17 Southern Stars representative program.
The Toowoomba East Stingers have donated financially to the program, to help lower the costs of the Girls representative program. Two former East Stingers are in the current 35 player squad Lauren Jericho and Isabella Baldock and both should go through to the final squad of 24.
This is a fantastic initiative by the Stingers and they are the only club that has got behind the cause.
"We wanted to help out girls footy in some way and we thought by donating would help burden the cost of the trip for the girls," Kim Thomas from the East Stingers said.
"Yes we do have two of our own girls in the squad which is fantastic to see them progress through the local ranks but we wanted to help the program out the best way we could," Thomas also added.
Program coordinator Jeff Neumann said," It is absolutely great to see one of the local clubs donate to the program, every little bit counts and I thank the Toowoomba East Stingers immensely.
The Southern Stars squad will be cut down to 24 by the end of August and it looks like most of the Darling Downs girls will continue on in the program after the cut off date. The Stars program is a combined representative program with Gold Coast and Northern Rivers regions joining the Darling Downs.
Make sure you keep checking back to check out the final Southern Stars squad.
