St Ursula's College have continued their dominance of the local school football landscape by going through the 2012 Brisbane Lions Secondary School OPEN competition undefeated.
Since their inclusion in the competition in 2009 St Ursula's have not lost a game of school AFL and don't look like stopping now.
St Ursula's got their campaign off to a shakey start as the first time entrants St Joseph's College were looking to cause a Round 1 upset. Joey's led for most of the first half until St Ursula's hit back with a quick goal just before the half time siren and the powerhouse school led by a slender 1 point at the first break.
A first up goal to St Joseph's in the second half woke the St Ursula's girls up and they hit back with three very quick goals to secure a 15point victory first up.
Game 1 Result: St Ursula's College 4.3 (27) defeat St Joseph's College 2.0 (12)
St Joseph's backed up for Game two as the went head to head with St Saviour's College. St Saviour's started the better of the two teams kicking 2.3 to 1.1 in the first half and most thought this was going to be a one sided affair.
Whatever coach Spain said at half-time fired up the Joey's girls as the bounced back kicking 15 unanswered points, while keeping Saviour's score-less. St Joseph's recording their first win of the day wining by 7points.
Game 2 Result: St Joseph's College 3.4 (22) to 2.3 (15)
It was St Ursula's Anna Moyle that led the St Ursula's girls to victory over St Saviour's in the final game of the day. Ursula's girls were too strong for the St Sav's girls kicking 2.3 to 1 straight in the opening term.
S.U.C stepped it up another notch in the second half booting 4.3 to 0, to record an impressive 36point win and keep their unbeaten streak on the Darling Downs going.
Game 3 Result: St Ursula's College 6.6 (42) to 1.0 (6)
St Ursula's will now continue on in the competition and will look to defend their State Title. St Ursula's are the reigning State Champions for the Brisbane Lions Secondary School Girls Cup.
