The AFL Darling Downs Juniors game of the round will be between the University Cougars (1st) and Coolaroo (2nd) at Gold Park. Both sides are coming off impressive wins in Round 17 and both will be looking to build momentum for their finals campaign.
University are coming off the most impressive win as they defeated the Dalby Swans by 136points as they gave the Swannies a taste of their own medicine.
It has been a while since Dalby was beaten at home and University will be full of confidence going into this clash with the Roo's. Coolaroo are also coming off a good win defeating the Pittsworth Power by 111 points at Bridgeman Oval.
Cougars Captain Sam Cooper is the danger-man for the Roo's and is running hot at both club land and Crows level. Cooper is a very damaging footballer mainly off the halfback but has been injected into the midfield this year, proving to be a master-stroke by the Cougars coach.
The perfect match-up for Cooper would be Coolaroo classy left footer Corey Bellert. Like Cooper, Bellert is in terrific form both at club land and Crows with his best attribute being his ability to push forward and kick goals. This will be a mouth watering match-up and one for younger players to watch two quality players lock horns.
Another key matchup will be Coolaroo forward Harry Marshall and Cougars defender Connor Pyke. Harry Marshall made the initiative to develop his game further by training with the u18 Crows and also ending up with a few games for the Grand-Final bound Crows.
Marshall reads the play well and will be a handful for Cougars key defender Pyke. Connor (Pyke) has blistering speed and may catch Marshall out if he is a tad sluggish.
This is definitely a game to watch at Gold Park before the Ladies Day celebrations kick off.
While all age groups will be in action for Coolaroo and University, Kratzke Oval will also host all age groups with Highfields hosting South Toowoomba. Dalby and East Toowoomba u8's, 10's and 12's will also be in action at the Swannies home ground on Owen Street.
Goondiwindi travel to Roddies Oval to take on Warwick in the Under 12's and 14's while the Lockyer Valley Demons finish their year off against Pittsworth in the u8's, 12's and 16's at the UQ in Gatton.
