The Toowoomba East Stingers have continued their run of off-field success in 2012, taking the lead in the inaugural AFLDDJ Club of the Year Award.
The Stingers have overtaken early season leaders Pittsworth to move up to 980 points, 65 ahead of Pittsworth, who still remain in second position. Goondiwindi has also moved up the leaderboard quickly to jump up to 3rd place on 650 points.
The AFLDDJ Club of the Year Award was established in 2012 to try and improve club administration across the 10 junior clubs, as well as encourage them to strive for off-field excellence.
AFLDD Club Coordinator, Christopher Davis says "clubs which have a strong off-field environment are generally more successful on-field but are also more enjoyable places to play, watch and be involved in footy."
"Clubs which take a moment to think about their processes eventually see the benefit in more ways than one".
Clubs are awarded points for completing certain tasks, up to a maximum of 2000 points. For example, attending all junior league meetings in the year gives a club 100 points.
Points will be awarded right until late in August where the eventual winner will be announced at the Junior Presentation Night on September 1st.
A late flurry of points are expected from all clubs as they tick off on the final tasks for the year which wll make the race to the finish so much more interesting.
Back in June, the Toowoomba East Stingers were awarded the Queensland Quality Club of the Month, a statwide award linked with the AFL's Quality Club Program.
Along with their involvement in the AFLDD Clubs Alive Program, the Toowoomba East Stingers are the frontrunners for this years award, focussing on a strong off-field environment.
