Captain Lochie Dignan has led the Darling Downs Crows into the 2012 SEQ Central Conference Grand-Final, after the Crows ran out 35point victors over the Kenmore Bears at Rockville Oval on Sunday afternoon.
It was an arm wrestle in the first quarter as both teams struggled to penetrate the defensive lines. Kenmore making the most of their inside 50's taking a slender 5 point lead into the first break.
Darling Downs lifted in the second term booting 5 goals to 3, as both sides went from defensive to all out attack and the Crows coming away the better of the two sides leading by 10points at the main break.
After the main break, the Crows started the better of both sides kicking the first 2 goals of the quarter but the Bears replied kicking two very quickly. The Crows could have taken a bigger margin into the final break but were erratic in front of goals kicking 2.4 for the quarter plus numerous shots out of bounds on the full.
Darling Downs led by 13 at the final change.
As they have done all year Darling Downs kept running and powered on in the final quarter. The Crows kept the Bears to just 1 behind for the term as the Crows kicked 3.5 for the fourth quarter. The Crows ran out 11.14 (80) to 7.3 (45) victors in front of a strong home crowd.
Darling Downs will now have the week off and will play the winner of the Preliminary Final clash between Kenmore and Yeronga South Brisbane. The Grand-Final will played at Coorparoo AFC on Sunday 19th August at 11:00am.
"Fantastic win for the boys, they really dug deep today - Kenmore kept coming at us but we kept coming at them, it is great news to be in the Grand-Final," Crows Coach Jeff Neumann said after the Qualifying Final.
To top the day off, Crows Captain Lochie Dignan was named the League Best and Fairest winner for the SEQ Central Conference Competition. Big congratulations to Lochie!
