Souths & Coolaroo face off in a do or die clash in this Saturday’s Allied Pickfords Reserve Grade competition at Harristown Park. The Reserves competition was reintroduced in 2012 after a 10 year hiatus with some people fearing it would be an even greater failure than the 1996 film, Bio-Dome (look it up, it stars Kylie Minogue!). However the competition has proven to prosper with many players returning for cameo appearances, as well as new players looking to kick off their careers.
The teams first met way back in Round 2 when a younger Bombers outfit ran away with the match in the second half. Since then, the Roos have won both encounters, although largely off the back of some A Grade players having a lazy run. Last time the Roos had a bye the A Grade captain, Alex Horsfall pulled on a tight fitting guernsey and kicked a lazy couple. However with finals just around the corner it should be expected that A Grade coach, Nick Barker will not allow such shenanigans.
Chris Jackson has been magniferous for the Roos Reserves when playing up forward and has the chance to leapfrog Eddie Tong for the leading goalkicker award. While for the Bombers, their younger Crows players have been amongst the best however with a semi-final the next day don’t expect too many of them to take the field.
With no real idea on who will take the field, it can’t really be speculated on which team will win, who will star or who will be the first to tear a hamstring, however it can be guaranteed that both teams will have a red hot crack. Both teams are tied on two wins and with Coolaroo facing University next week, whoever wins will likely take second spot and have the chance to take home some silverware in two weeks time.
