Wildcats aim to upset undefeated Seahawks

After starting the Development League season with three straight losses, virtually no-one thought that with only two games to play in the regular season, the Warwick Wildcats would still be a chance of making the semi finals. But after stringing together 7 wins from 9 games, it will be up to the undefeated premiers, the Gold Coast Seahawks, to finish off the Wildcats challenge. Reality is, that if the Wildcats can hold off the Seahawks this Sunday, the Wildcats are still a real chance of making the finals. The talk around the basketball circles is that they are one of the form teams that are tipped to actually win it with their full strength squad available for the remaining games. They will still need both Noosa and Maroochydore to lose one game each out of the last two, but with tough matches ahead of them, this is also a real chance of happening. “Either way, Maroochydore, Noosa and Warwick, will all have to beat top of the table teams to get to the play-offs” said Coach Jeff Clark “But whoever gets through these tough matches with wins, should be in good form to challenge for the title. Our main focus remains on beating the only undefeated team this weekend, and with our full strength team available, we are every chance. This should be a top quality match up, with probably the best two teams we have had against each other here in Warwick. If we can win this game, it would likely be a semi-final preview. Considering it’s our first season, and we got off to such a bad start, I am really proud of the team that we have put together, and the results that we have been able to achieve. Just to be in this position has really put Warwick Basketball on the Map.

One of the biggest achievements for the Wildcats this season is to see the improvement in a number of the players. “Stepping up a level and playing against more experienced players can either make or break you” said Clark “We have a number of players who have really stepped up and improved their game this season. Josh and DJ Cremasco, Dean Clark, Jesse Burton, Andrew Stubbings and Scott Hill in particular, I can see have all benefitted greatly from not only playing against better opposition, but have also learned from playing with so many top quality team-mates. Another Warwick product, Declan Starasts has also proven that it was no accident that he got time in QBL with the Ipswich Force, as he has been unstoppable this season, and has to be in the running for the Leagues MVP”

Warwick play this must win game against the undefeated Gold Coast Seahawks this Sunday afternoon at WIRAC at 4:30pm. Clark has urged as many supporters as possible to come along and help the Wildcats achieve victory.
