With only percentage separating these teams on the ladder both sides will be playing their Grand Final on Saturday in a game that will decide the wooden spoon for season 2012.
The last time these teams met Lockyer came away with their historical first win in 3 seasons (40 games) and in doing so lifted themselves from the bottom of the premiership ladder. Goondiwindi however, pulled off an upset win at home against Highfields in round 14 to move above the Demons with a slightly greater percentage.
Lockyer Valley midfielder / small forward Damien Morris has had a superb 2012 season and was arguably best on ground the last time these teams met in round 9. Morris booted 4 goals in this game and is a player who has the ability to break lines with his explosive pace and exceptional balance. Brothers Robert and Harley Hicks have also been very consistent all year and give the Demons solid rebounding options from defence.
For the Hawks the return of young yelpie Jo Verney has been a successful one with the key forward booting 8 majors in their win over the Lions 3 weeks ago. Michael Lynn has also had a consistent year in front of the big sticks while classy on baller / forward Jeremy Leahy will be a player the Demons will need to keep an eye on today with his finishing ability being amongst the best in the competition.
All in all a game both clubs will be extremely eager to win and finish the year off on a high note. In other games the Dalby Swans host the University Cougars, South Toowoomba and Warwick will do battle at the ‘Sardine Pit’ while the Tigers are at home to the Highfields Lions and Coolaroo have the bye.
