This Saturday the USQ Cougars will once again host the Hospitality Store Cancer Council Queensland Charity Match when they play the South Toowoomba Bombers at Baker St Oval in Toowoomba.
This is the fourth year the Cougars have held the fundraiser, an event which is growing every year. For the 2nd time in the events history, the A Grade match will be played as a twilight match beginning at 4pm with a full suite of junior fixtures and a Reserves match as a curtain raiser for the first time ever.
The event attracts support from many businesses across the Darling Downs with every specially designed pink University guernsey sponsored by a different sponsor, with all proceeds going to Cancer Council Queensland.
A BBQ will be run throughout the day as well as a large raffle with all proceeds from both going towards the overall donation.
Coach of the Under 16 side and organiser of the event, Shane Melrose loves the concept of the event. “It’s great to see everyone in our club and across the community come out and support such a great cause”.
“Last year we were able to donate over $5000 for the cause which is just fantastic”
“It really shows everyone in the football community that there are more important things than football”, said Melrose.
Despite this, both sides will be going out there with plenty on the line. The Cougars are looking to sure up a finals berth, while the Bombers are looking to regain top spot after their first loss of the season last weekend.
For a full day of football action and to support this great cause head down to the Baker St Oval on the USQ campus this Saturday. Junior matches kick off with the Under 8s & 10s at 8:40am, with the A Grade fixture beginning at 4pm.
