THE euphoria of victory and the desolation of defeat were palpable when the siren sounded at Burbank Oval on Sunday.
Williamstown remained in the VFL finals race after a rousing two-point victory against arch rival Werribee in a nail-biting contest.
The Seagulls appeared dead and buried early in time-on of the last quarter when they trailed by 10 points.
But Western Bulldogs-listed pair Liam Jones and Zephaniah Skinner managed to sink majors as Williamstown secured its ninth win of the season, 14.7 (90) to 13.11 (89).
Werribee skipper Robbie Castello missed a chance to put the Tigers back in front in the last quarter when he hit the post from 15m out.
The Gulls improved their record to 7-6-1, while the finals-bound Tigers are 9-5.
The western rivals have produced two epic encounters this season, with their Round 6 meeting decided by just seven points.
The win was Williamstown's ninth in succession against Werribee.
The Tigers led at every change - by five points at quarter-time, 10 points at halftime and nine points at three-quarter-time - but not when it counted most.
Williamstown never led until midway through the final term.
"It was probably similar to the last time we played them. It was just goal for goal there at the end," Seagulls football manager Chris Dixon said.
