The Roos are coming off a nail biting 1 point victory over Souths last week in a game that they controlled through the first 3 quarters until the Bombers stormed home late. While Coolaroo coach Nick Barker would have been impressed with his players ability to control the majority of the game a question mark may lay over his teams fitness. Like the famous Apollo 13 expedition an oxygen tank exploded late in the mission allowing Souths back into the game.
The Tigers on the other hand would be considered one of the best conditioned sides in the competition as comparisons could be made between Andrew Farr and Tom Hafey’s conditioning traits. This will mean that the Roos will need to keep a bit in reserve in this game.
These teams last met back in round 3 where the Tigers controlled much of the game and ran away with a comfortable 44 point victory. Much has changed since that encounter with the Roos winning 11 straight and in doing so have jumped to the top of the Allied Pickfords ladder.
The Roos did not register a multiple goal kicker back in round 3 and this is something that will have to be rectified today if they are going to get the job done. While gun midfielder Tom Rudolph did not play his customary role last week in the engine room he did have a big impact on the game booting 4 goals and with Miles Grice looming larger than the fardingbag (upper stomach) of a Mallee Bull this pair could be the difference in this game.
The Tigers will look for their goals through the multitude of classy small forwards they have at their disposal. Michael O’Donoghue Jnr, Josh Andrews and Danny McErvale are all proven performers in front of goals and will need to be checked closely by the best defence in the competition.
A big game for both clubs as they look to secure a top 2 finish with only 3 weeks remaining in the regular season. The team who will risk it may just get the biscuit here.
In other games University host South Toowoomba in the annual Cancer Council charity match at Baker Street. The Lockyer Valley play their last home game for the season against Highfields while Warwick host Dalby and the Goondiwindi Hawks have the bye.
