THE Darling Downs Crows have stormed home on Sunday afternoon to kick seven second half goals to Alex Hills one, to record a 10.10 (70) to 5.7 (37) win over the arch rivals.
With the Crows guaranteed the minor premiership and with second to fourth all tied on points, Alex Hills needed this game to give themselves the second chance come finals. It was not to be as the Crows continued their dominance of the u18 SEQ Central conference competition.
Darling Downs dominated the first quarter but were unable to capitalise taking a very slim six point lead into the first break. The usual suspects in Stahlhut, Myles, Dignan and Thomas led the way in a wasteful first quarter.
It was much the same in the second term, but it was Alex Hills who made the most of their inside 50's, as the league leading goal kicker from the Bombers Corey Bastian kicked all three of the Bombers goals. Alex Hills were able to take a handy 12-point lead into the long break.
Daniel Verrall and Josh Stahlhut led the way in a relatively scrappy quarter of footy.
As they have done all year, the Crows regrouped at half-time and bounced back with three quick unanswered goals in the third quarter to regain the lead. A lapse of concentration saw the Bombers record their only score the quarter, a goal to classy Bombers midfielder Jesse Monkley.
Geoff Gibb stood tall in the third term, as did Lachlan Thomas, Daniel Verrall, Josh Stahlhut and Lochie Dignan.
Darling Down's finished the game off strongly, piling on another four goals and keeping the Bombers to just two behinds. Alex Hills stemed the flow by putting in place two floating defenders to stand in front of the Crows key forwards.
Again Verrall was superb along with Myles, Stahlhut and Dignan who all had good games.
The Crows will now face the Wynnum Vikings in the final home and away game for the season at Rockville Oval this Sunday 29th July. It will be a big day for the Crows as it will be the "Past Players and Sponsors Day". A full action of footy, as the Under 14's will be in action from 12:30pm against Kenmore and the Under 18's kicking off at 2:30pm.
