Moe leap frog Sale into third

In Gippsland Soccer at the weekend Moe United leap frogged Sale into third place when the Red Devils proved too strong for cross town rival Monash 3-1 and Sale was soundly defeated by Fortuna 4-0.

Moe’s defensive marshal Lee Dastey scored in the first half before being substituted at the break.  He was joined on the score sheet by fellow veteran Jason Koppen while Monash scored an own goal and scored one of its own through Chris Noppert.

Fortuna overcame the disappointment of losing to Sale last time they met with two goals in each half to send the Swans packing.  Returning goal sneak Hayden Tanti scored both first half goals before his cousin Josh Tanti along with Joel Pirotta hit the back of the net in the second half.

Falcons 1-0 win over Traralgon City on Sunday has put the Morwell club in the frame for a finals berth.  Harley Broadbent proved the difference with his first half goal enough to give the Falcons the points despite tremendous pressure from the Roosters.

An already compacted ladder became tighter when the Traralgon Olympians defeated Newborough-Yallourn 3-1 on Saturday night. Goal scorers for the Olympians were in form striker Clayton Bell who collected another double along with a single to Tony Pardo, whilst NYU’s consolation was scored by Brendan Ruddell.

Churchill rained on Tyers 30th anniversary celebrations handing out a 10-1 hiding in the Hazelwood South Reserve mud on Friday night.

Churchill’s Taylor Jackson scored five times and coach Luke Cheney claimed a bag of four for the second match in a row.  The Ram’s scoring was rounded out by Jesse Kennedy and Mark Pavich claimed Tyers solitary goal.

Round 14 Preview

Traralgon City vs Moe United

Moe United is one of the form sides of the competition and a win on Sunday against Traralgon City on the road will see it move another step toward securing a top three finish, which would be a fantastic effort considering the Red Devils were struggling in 8th spot back at the beginning of June.

Last time they met City scratched out a 1-0 win at Olympic Park but Moe are playing with real confidence now and that should be enough to see them over the line this Sunday.

Falcons vs Newborough-Yallourn

If Falcons are to continue their run for finals then they need to defeat the more dour teams of the competition like this week’s opponent Newborough-Yallourn.  The Birds have dropped points to Tyers and Olympians in matches they should have won this season and can ill afford a slip up against NYU in the twilight on Saturday night.

Sale United vs Churchill United

Sale will be aiming to stave off its third defeat on the trot when it hosts ladder leader Churchill who has appeared to have shaken off its mid season form slump with seventeen goals to its credit in the last two matches.

Last time Sale was without key veterans Jon Piefke and Romi Bitar and was soundly defeated away from home 6-0.  This time out, and with the home scalp of Fortuna under its belt this season, the fourth placed Swans will make life tough for the travelling Rams.

Monash vs Fortuna

It’s make or break time for Monash when they host Fortuna on Sunday.  The Wolves are one of six clubs jostling for third and fourth spot and an unlikely win here could prove the life line required.

It will be the first time former Monash captain Rayvel Whiting returns to his old club in a Fortuna shirt which is sure to fire up the Wolves who will have the memory of their 4-0 defeat the last time they met as further motivation.

Tyers vs Traralgon Olympians

Tyers will take heart from its 1-1 draw against Olympians the last time they met with the Blues desperate for another win to maintain pressure on other finals contenders.

Clayton Bell is the man to watch for Olympians whilst Tyers will be hoping the inclusion of Mark Pavich and Jake Budija this week will make the difference.
