Round 16 of the AFL Season delivers the official debut of five 2011 Peter Jackson VFL players. Thomas Couch, Jackson Sheringham, Mark Baguley, Sam Dunell and Steve Clifton will be representing their respective AFL Clubs for the first time this weekend.
Thomas Couch
Thomas Couch will make his much awaited AFL debut for the Melbourne Football Club this Saturday against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.
Couch was recruited by the Demons with selection 24 in the 2012 NAB AFL Rookie Draft from Collingwood’s VFL side. He was named as Melbourne’s mid-season nominated rookie, resulting in eligibly for senior selection for the remainder of season 2012.
Son of 1989 Brownlow Medallist Paul Couch, the 24 year old midfielder has demonstrated his talent for the Casey Scorpions in the VFL this season. Last weekend was a highlight with Couch booting four goals and amassing 25 disposals against Port Melbourne at Casey Fields.
Jackson Sheringham
Jackson Sheringham lines up for the Geelong Cats this Saturday when they take on Collingwood at the MCG. Sheringham will be making his first official appearance for the Club after being recruited from their VFL side in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft last year.
The mature-age midfielder from Bell Park has been a great product of the region having played his TAC Cup football at the Geelong Falcons.
Mark Baguley
Former Frankston Dolphin, Mark Baguley will be making his AFL debut for Essendon this Saturday when they line up against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
Baguley was taken with pick number 47 in the 2012 Rookie Draft after impressing the Dons by averaging 22 disposals per match in the 2011 Peter Jackson VFL season.
The versatility of the 180 centimetre defender and midfielder will provide Essendon with additional flexibility.
Sam Dunell
Former Bendigo VFL player, Sam Dunell will be making his AFL debut this weekend for the St Kilda Football Club when they take on the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday.
Dunell was recruited with selection 12 of the NAB AFL Rookie Draft last year after putting forward some talented performances towards the end of the VFL season for Bendigo.
The 22 year old was elevated to St Kilda’s Senior List this week.
Steve Clifton
Three-time VFL premiership player, Steve Clifton will be making his official AFL debut for the Greater Western Sydney Giants this Sunday at Skoda Stadium.
GWS GIANTS selected Steve with pick number one in the 2010 AFL Rookie Draft from the North Ballarat Roosters.
Clifton is an inside midfielder that demonstrated his ability in 2010 by being awarded the VFL best and fairest (J.J. Liston Trophy) and North Ballarat’s best and fairest award.
