The Toowoomba East Stingers will travel across town to face arch rivals the South Toowoomba Bombers at Harristown Park in the DDJ game of the round. Both Under 12 sides are coming into this clash with interesting form lines and chugging along like a “chu chu train” just doing enough.
Souths are currently sitting third and will be looking to secure a top four finish, as the young Stingers (4th) have Coolaroo nipping at their heels in fifth and will be eager for the four points.
It was an interesting match last time these sides met way back in Round 7, as a wasteful South Toowoomba secured the four premiership points with an ugly ten point win. Easts were without “Thunder Buddies”, Angus and Harry Barnsley and both will be a welcome inclusion in this round 14 clash.
Two key match ups will decide the outcome of this game and they are;
Reardon (Souths) V Rattray (Easts)
Reardon and Rattray have had epic battles in the past and today’s probably the most important of all. Eric (Rattray) is an elite runner for his age and add to this his cleanliness of hands and ability to play in the ruck or play rover is uncanny, along with his pace. Thomas (Reardon) has outstanding skills on both sides of his body but more importantly he is a classy defensive midfielder who can push forward and kick multiple goals.
Schaumann (Souths) V Wilson (Easts)
Mitchell Schaumann is lightning quick and has a work rate like no other. His skills can be erratic at times but can go under the radar of opposition teams, as they focus on the likes of Reardon, Debney and Carlsson. Callan (Wilson) is very similar to Schaumann of Souths, very fit, quick and an exceptional outside player. Like Schaumann can go under the radar, it will be unlikely these two will match up against each other but both sides should be wary of these two up and coming stars.
Whichever side can make the most of their inside 50’s in this clash, will walk away with the four premiership points.
In other fixtures; Pittsworth will host Warwick in the u8’s, u12’s and u16s at Bridgemann Oval, while two hours down the Highway Goondiwindi will welcome Highfields Lions at Riddles Oval in the u12’s and u14’s. Owen Street Oval will host a number of blockbusters, as the Swans and Roo’s face each other in the Under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s.
Meanwhile University and Lockyer Valley will be going head to head in all age groups at Baker Street. Remember it is Positive or It’s Pointless Round and all spectators, players, officials are asked to make sure everything is Positive for this Round.
