This weekend, all clubs across the Darling Downs will participate in the state-wide Positive or It’s Pointless round. The Positive or it’s pointless (POIP) campaign aims to reduce poor and unacceptable player, spectator and parent behaviour to make sport safe for all children.
Throughout this weekend, we are looking to clubs to promote this message more than usual, that negative match day behaviour will not be tolerated, that it’s Positive or its Pointless.
The AFL first began promoting this message a few years ago before the program was deemed so successful other sporting organisations and the State Government have jumped onboard.
Last year 7 local clubs (Coolaroo, University, Highfields, Goondiwindi, Warwick, Pittsworth & Lockyer Valley) successfully applied for a grant to promote the campaign throughout their club. Just by promoting this message they received up to $1 000 in equipment their players can use each week.
On this round, please be especially vigilant in ensuring yours and everyone else’s attitude remains positive.
- Support both teams of kids who are out there to have fun, not just the one your child plays in.
- If a player makes a mistake, who cares, they aren’t playing for sheep stations.
- An umpire will make a mistake, but when they do, accept that it happens, nobody is perfect. Remember, most of the umpires are kids too and they are out there because they enjoy it.
A positive matchday environment will be better for everyone involved in our great game, improve our clubs and crucially ensure all kids enjoy their time spent at footy.
