FIGHT CANCER! GAME ON: Lightning FC and Services prepare to do battle

Local Parkes teams Lightning FC and Services are taking a stand against prostate cancer in men by participating in Cancer Council’s Call to Arms this July. Dedicating the day to the cause, the team will wear yellow arm bands during the game and sizzle up the barbeque post-match with all funds raised going to prostate cancer.

Although they will be having fun both on and off the field Lightning FC and Services are supporting a very serious matter, with prostate cancer the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men.

Lightning FC and Services will be holding their third Call to Arms match when they play each other on Sunday 29 July at Harrison Park kicking off at 2pm, with both teams playing for the Cancer Council Call to Arms Trophy proudly sponsored by Ray White Parkes. Both teams’ players will wear yellow armbands in support, with the club also donating proceeds from the post-match barbeque and raffles to the cause.

Raffle tickets are now available in the monster raffle with the value of the prize currently valued at almost $2000. Tickets can be purchased at the NRMA office in Parkes, at the soccer fields leading up to the match and also on match day, with the winner drawn at the conclusion of the match on Sunday 29 July.

Call to Arms is a Cancer Council event, asking players from all sporting codes to pick a game during their season to hold a Call to Arms match wear something yellow and raise funds to fight prostate cancer.

Organisers Cameron Stone and Wayne Pearce said both clubs decided to get involved in Call To Arms after players from both teams had been effected by loosing a close friend or relative sadly pass away from cancer.

Funds raised will help prevent and detect prostate cancers in men, find new treatments, as well as support men in need by funding Cancer Council’s important cancer research, prevention and support programs.
