It might have been one of the coldest days of the year in Toowoomba but that didn't stop the 40 participants from far and wide participating in the 2012 DD school-holiday Super Camp at Rockville Oval.
All the boys and girls in attendance were kept busy as they participated in the Amazing Race, running around Rockville collecting clues while testing out their footballing knowledge. To the trading card draft, colouring in competition, mini AFL games and the hit for the day "the AFL Speccie Machine", fun was had by all.
Also making a special appearance was six of the Brisbane Lions up and coming stars in Sam Michael, Justin Clarke, Stephen Wrigley, Patrick Wearden, Elliot Yeo and Jack Crisp.
The Lions players took the boys and girls through a master-class, teaching them the fine art of kicking torpedo's and magical check-side goals from the boundary.
The 2012 Super Camp was wrapped up with a question and answer session for the Lions players, along with of course an autograph and photo with the Lions and Bernie Gabba Vegas.
“Even though numbers were down on last year, we couldn’t stop the 40 boys and girls from smiling and they wouldn’t stop raving about the Speccie Machine,” AFLQ Development Officer Jeff Neumann explained.
“Our camp is growing in popularity; we even had a participant that was down from Bundaberg for holidays that wanted to register”.
A number of volunteers and staff did a fantastic job during the day; a big thank you goes out to them all.
“I would just like to not only thank my AFL staff but Janine Smith and Maree Tory for catching all of the action for the day’s proceedings on camera, it is the little things that make the day fantastic for all,” Neumann said.
Plans are already in place for the 2013 Super Camp, with staff planning on bringing back the very popular Speccie Machine and adding more popular items that are used in the Lions Park before Brisbane Lions home games.
