Highfields and South Toowoomba will battle it out in the AFLDDJ junior game of the round. The third placed Lions will be looking to cement their spot in top 4 and even look at possibly stealing second off Dalby. South Toowoomba are fighting to keep their season alive, a win here will see them 1 game shy of 4th spot and the Bombers have a much greater percentage then the Cougars (4th) and Redbacks (5th) who sit above them.
A loss in this game to the Bombers will just about see them hanging the boots up after their round 18 clash.
With this game scheduled during the school holidays, it will be interesting to find which side can turn up with the right key personnel. If the Lions can turn up with star trio Adams, Grundon and Stahlhut they will be hard to beat. The Bombers have their own brigade of rising stars in Neumann, Walters and Hess.
Grundon will more than likely get the defensive role on Souths playmaker Neumann. Ryan (Neumann) is quick, skilful and sets up a lot of the Souths drive. (Will) Grundon is a tough in and under type player who will thrive on the contest with Neumann.
Another key matchup will be, Samuel Stahlhut (Highfields) on lively Bombers forward Bradon Hess. Bradon is currently sitting third in the league leading goal kicker and bagged a triple last week against the Swannies. Hess can score goals from anywhere and Stahlhut will be the perfect match up for him.
One more key match up to watch for this game is Highfields Skipper Josh Adams and Souths Callum Walters who should go head to head. Though Josh is a small outside midfielder, he is first class by foot and hand. Walters game revolves around the team game; tackling, shepherding, talk and add to this his skill and work rate – the Walters, Adams dual will go a long way to deciding the outcome of this game.
The Bombers need to continue their attacking, run and carry style of footy and need to take risks against the third placed Lions. Souths coach Zac Smith needs to make sure his troops play for each other and don’t try to do the “cute” things like they did against Dalby in Round 12.
Highfields will need to watch the class of the Bombers and continue to play their style of footy, it can’t just be the trio doing all the work and everyone on the field will need to step up if they are to stop a red hot Bombers outfit.
Will the Lions roar or will the Bombers fly up, only one way to tell and that is getting down to Rockville Oval at 11:00am for this blockbuster.
