Former Box Hill Hawk Sam Gibson has made his much awaited AFL debut for North Melbourne in their 7 point win over the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday.
Gibson was drafted to the Kangaroos as a mature-age rookie at the end of 2011 after over 100 games for the Box Hill Hawks and a short stint on Hawthorn’s rookie list.
The 26 year old quickly adjusted to the pace of AFL level football at Metricon Stadium on Saturday evening, and come the third quarter he clicked into another gear and accumulated the majority of his 18 possessions. ‘Coincidently’ it was the third term that saw North Melbourne create the match winning lead that Gold Coast were unable to infringe upon.
Round 13 will see North Melbourne meet Adelaide on Sunday at Etihad Stadium. This contest will bring upon a much tougher challenge for Gibson, who will no doubt thrive on the opportunity.
Gibson’s debut brings to seven the number of debutante VFL draftees in season 2012, with Williamstown ruckman Tom Campbell likely to become number 8 this weekend after being elevated to the senior list from his rookie status.
