The Warwick Redbacks host the University cougars in this week’s Allied Pickfords match of the round to be played at Roddies Oval 2:15pm
These teams last met back in round 6 with the Redbacks coming away with a hard fought 24 point win. Brendan Iles was the difference in this encounter booting 3 goals from the midfield in a best on ground performance and the spotlight will again be on Iles today after he was shut down last week by Coolaroo.
University have welcomed back Chris Davis over the last 2 weeks as he has recovered from a serious hamstring injury which kept him out of action for the first half of the season. Heath Gniel has returned to career best form in 2012 booting 36 goals for the Cougars in just 9 games played this season.
The outcome of this game could play a big part in the make up of the final four. University climbed 2 spots on the ladder last week with their big win over Highfields and now hold the last finals place with 20 points and a healthy percentage (195%). Highfields (121%) and Warwick (121%) also sit on 20 points but are a long way behind University’s percentage keeping in mind that the Redbacks are still to gain percentage for their earlier encounter with the Lockyer Valley.
What’s also interesting is both teams run to the finals. After this game the Redbacks play Lockyer, Highfields, Dalby, Souths and Goondiwindi and would consider themselves favourites in 4 of those closing 5 games.
The Cougars on the other hand face the Tigers, Lockyer, Goondiwindi, Souths, Dalby and Coolaroo on their run home and would be considered favourites in 3 of their final 6 games. So based on these predictions percentage could play a major role in deciding the last finals position.
Highfields have the toughest run home of the 3 teams listed above as they come up against Coolaroo, Goondiwindi, Warwick, Lockyer, Tigers and Souths.
In Other games the Bombers host the Dalby Swans at the ‘Sardine Pit’, Harristown Park while Coolaroo head down the mountain to take on the Demons and the Tigers are at home against the Hawks. Highfields have the bye.
