The Southern Stars program was officially formed in 2010 by DDAFLQ Development Officer Jeff Neumann and NRAFLQ Development Manager Brent Kelly. From there, the program has gone from strength to strength, with the Stars shining at last years Championships to finish as runners up.
The program is into it's first stage for Darling Downs girls, as all in attendance were put through their paces on Sunday morning at Rockville Oval.
With 25 nominating, the program has grown since its inclusion in 2010, where only 6 nominated.
"It's fantastic to see so many girls within the DD region putting their hand up for representative duties, we would love to take everyone but unfortunately we can't", said Southern Stars program manager Jeff Neumann on Sunday.
Sixteen girls have been included for Stage two of the program, where the girls will trial with other Youth Girls from the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers on Sunday 15th July at Pacific Pines JAFC on the Gold Coast. From here Stars selectors will visit all three regions 15-a-side Brisbane Lions Cup carnival days to possible scope for more talented females to include for the third and final stage of the selection process in mid August.
