Draft All of Basketball Plan - Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ)

ALL OF BASKETBALL PLAN – BASKETBALL NEW ZEALAND

Focus on Core Business

As an outcome of a nationwide consultation process held between BBNZ and the game in early 2010, the Board implemented its 2011 – 2013 Strategic Plan. This strategic plan was an outcome of the consensus of feedback received, that the capability of the game needed to be addressed and fixed.

As requested by our stakeholders, Basketball New Zealand management have decided to develop, clarify and refine a national development structure to benefit participants at all levels. This will essentially align all basketball development programmes to provide a unified pathway into the game and deliver a consistent experience to all participants. The All of Basketball Pathway Plan details a long and short term scope of work that can deliver the goals set out in the current strategic plan.

As presented during the BBNZ member’s AGM plenary session in June (presentations and documents available to download below), our initial focus is community participation and development. These elements provide the fundamental core business of basketball and must be prioritised, in order to grow the numbers and become more sustainable. Once these community participation and development programmes and products are refined and improved, basketball will be in a much stronger position to achieve long term sustainability.

Following this further projects to be completed within the All of Basketball Pathway Plan will include a;

  • Review of the NBL and Women’s Basketball
  • High Performance Plan
  • Marketing and Communications Plan
  • Commercial Sponsorship Plan

Feedback

Following the 2012 AGM, BBNZ will conduct a consultation process with the Basketball community to test the solutions proposed within the overall plan and to assist in the finalisation of the Implementation Plan. Please note that as signalled at the recent AGM, we have brought forward the deadline for written submissions. This is to accommodate the need to get early certainty for 2013, in particular the impact the plan will have on tournaments. If you wish to provide feedback, please submit a written submission by the 15th July, 2012 to the following email address – feedback@basketball.org.nz
